The Officina Battaglin brand was founded by Giovanni Battaglin, the Italian ex-rider who achieved the Giro d’Italia-Vuelta a Espana double in 1981. Right after his most successful season as a pro, Giovanni started his own bike workshop. As a bicycle maker, he built custom steel bikes for some of the greatest champions of the 80s and the 90s. With almost 3 decades spent helping pro riders feel good in the saddle, Giovanni Battaglin is the mind behind the design of the Officina Battaglin products. That’s why an Officina Battaglin custom build will bring you a lifetime of true racing expertise that made the history of cycling.

In the era of bicycle technology's obsession with lightness and stiffness, carbon seems to be the only choice when it comes to finding a new bike to explore new road feels. But is shaving weight the only thing that matters? Giovanni Battaglin asked himself this question in 2014, after 12 years of professional bike racing and more than 30 as a bicycle manufacturer.

With the new Officina Battaglin brand, he returned to his roots. He returned to the exceptional craftsmanship that made his name known all around the world. "Officina" is the Italian word for "workshop". It's the place where Giovanni Battaglin is reviving his legacy as the only Italian steel maker that is also a Grand-Tour winner.

The ROAD Range

The Portofino R

Since its inception, the Portofino has been Officina Battaglin’s flagship model. A lugged steel frame with oversized tubing: it was the perfect blend of the tradition of Italian steel frame building with modern tech and aesthetics. Over the last few years, the Portofino has seen several updates taking cues from the most advanced race bikes: tapered steerer, disc brakes, fully internal routing. But how close to a modern race-focused thoroughbred could a lugged steel bike get?

Alex and Giovanni Battaglin had been feeling the need to push the Portofino toward the race side for a while. So, when the update project started, they focused on one single goal: increasing frame stiffness without compromising comfort.

First, they opted for a different approach to the frame geometry by drastically lowering the seat stays. This implied redesigning the seat lug, which took a sharp departure from the classic shape accommodating the seat stays. But the new geometry also led to several adaptions on the rear triangle, with new flat chainstays and a new proprietary dropout. From there, the tubing diameters were increased. All combined, these major revisions led to the most dramatic change since the launch of the Portofino, the fastest Portofino version to date.

The Roma

The ROMA 2024 stands as a pinnacle of hybrid engineering, masterfully blending the timeless smoothness of steel with the feather-light agility of carbon fiber. This unique combination harnesses the best attributes of each material, creating a frame that rivals the lightness of titanium while maintaining the comfortable, vibration-dampening qualities of classic steel. We meticulously balanced these elements to craft a bike that offers an unparalleled riding experience—smooth and responsive, yet astonishingly light. With the ROMA, you’ll no longer have to choose between comfort and weight, and you’ll enjoy the best of both.

The ROMA 2024 not only sets a new standard in frame construction but also in visual splendor. Featuring Officina Battaglin’s signature cromovelato finish, the ROMA introduces a stunning gold rose hue—a special interpretation of the Giro d’Italia pink, deeply rooted in our storied cycling legacy. This exquisite finish on the steel sections beautifully contrasts with the raw, untouched elegance of the carbon areas, making for a look that’s both elegantly classic and distinctly aggressive. And for those who envision a different palette, the ROMA can be personalized further with one of the 12 vibrant options from our Premium Cromovelato Selection. Whichever hue you select from our carefully curated palette, the ROMA 2024 is guaranteed to turn heads, standing out as a masterpiece of design in any pack.

Palladio

The Palladio, like its namesake, is about harmony between form and function. It’s built using lugged construction, a method that our Italian framebuilders have refined over decades. This technique, while traditional, is executed with modern oversized lugs and tubing, enhancing both the bike’s aesthetic appeal and ride quality.
These lugs do more than just connect; they smooth out vibrations, making long rides less tiring. They expand the joint area, distributing stress and making the bike sturdier and more reliable. It promises not only a smooth ride but a stunning one, with each component reflecting the care and passion of its makers.
Palladio’s villas stand robust and graceful centuries later. Our Palladio bike aims to offer the same timeless reliability. It’s built for those who appreciate the classics but are not bound by them.
From the echoing halls of Palladian villas to the winding roads of your next ride, the Palladio is a bridge between eras. It’s your chance to own a piece of Italian artistry, crafted not far from where Palladio himself centuries ago designed his masterpieces. Now, with the Palladio and Battaglin’s “Cromovelato For You” program, the same ride feel that impressed hundreds of discerning cyclists will be yours to experience in just four weeks.

The gravel Range

Portofino G

The Portofino G builds on the Portofino’s unique design concept, bringing the oversized lugs’ unparalleled combination of comfort and reactivity on rough terrain. Paired with purpose-built Columbus GB81 tubing, the proprietary lugs allow the frame to soak up bumps and vibrations while retaining a true road bike feel. With the Portofino G, you’ll be able to tackle more demanding road conditions with confidence, with instant acceleration when you climb or get out of the saddle. It’s a gravel bike that will take away the shoulder and back pain that often comes from riding poorly paved roads for long distances… But it won’t take away a road bike’s distinct sensation of speed and freedom.

Each custom frame is built with one goal: to create a dream bike that fits your specific preferences while offering you an unforgettable, personalised experience. Battaglin have capped the annual production of custom builds at only 99 custom frames which allows them to dedicate the time needed to make each build special. Each frame comes with a numbered plate brazed to the top tube that authenticates its uniqueness and will make it an exclusive item to treasure forever.
